Driving to Ajijic

Can't Post | Private Reply
We are leaving on June 6 from California through Nogales to Ajijic down Mexico 15. I got directions previously but can anyone tell me about how long the trip will take driving a van pulling a cargo trailer? Does anyone have any recommendations where to stop for the night on our way down. We are bringing pets with us so the motel has to accept them.

I plan on driving on the toll roads as much as possible.

This site will give you information on hotels that accept dogs - lots of them don't, so plan carefully www.gringodog.com

That site also has the current requirements for shots and health certificates that you need to bring the dogs over the border.

Just remember to time yourself to get accross the border and through mexican stuff.
What can take 1 hours for all at one time can be 5 hours waiting in various lines. Look
at coming in Lukeville to mexican route 2 which connects up with 15 at Santa Ana and
avoids Nagales completely. Look carefully driving into Hermasillo or you will end up
driving through the middle of the city as we did. The bypass is much faster and easier
to find heading north than south. Signs can be real small and most mexican cities don't
even have signs on the secondary streets. We stopped at Guaymas/San Carlos, Mazatlan
on the way down. Don't know much about animal stuff as we don't have one. Go to Borders
they have GOOD mexican maps but be prepared to pay. They are worth it compared to the
AAA map of mexico.

Just came back north two weeks ago PM me if you want to talk.

it has been three years since i drove down from douglas, arizona, but i too had a pet and chose these two places to stay:

in navajoa, sonora, mexico, there is a Best Western on the north side of the town, right next to the highway on the right hand side. they accept pets. here's the link for that: http://bestwestern.worldexecutive.com/...an/navojoa/4671.html

the next day i travelled to matzalan and stayed at Los Arcos, which also accepts pets. it's expensive [by my standards], but it's right on the beach. it has apparently gone down hill over the past three years, based on reviews, but it was great when i was there. google or bing it and see what you think. also, if you decide to stay there, print out a map if possible. i didn't have reservations and stumbled on it while driving around in matzalan looking for a place to stay.

from matzalan, you can make ajijic/lake chapala in a day. if you decide to come into ajijic from the west, you need to look for signs to Jiquilpan or Colima, since Ajijic is not shown on the highway signs. PM me if you have more questions.

have a fun, safe trip down!
