Hello Ed...most of the veterinarians at Lakeside also board animals. In addition, there is a place called DOGLANDIA between Chapala and Ajijic which also boards. Furthermore, there are several retirees here who provide pet sitting services in your home...people who will feed, water, walk, and play with your animal(s) while you're away...for a fee, of course.

Bordetella

I can't speak for Doglandia or any of the boarding facilities in and around Ajijic/Lake Chapala, because I don't live in that area, but be absolutely sure that your pup has received bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine. Many Mexican boarding facilities do not require that their canine guests show proof of or receive the vaccine -- or even acknowledge the problem.

In addition to Doglandia (Pat Lawrie---766-4170 or doglandia@prodigy.net.mx) conveniently located just off the carreta between Chapala and San Antonio, there's a place near San Nicolas, on the road from Chapala to Mezcala.

Dee's Pet Care (Dee Leatherman---763-5449 or deedeecanino@yahoo.com) offers boarding, grooming (U.S. certified groomer), and a pick-up and delivery service for a number of pet related services. Dee also gives you a written report on your dog's stay, focusing on behavior, appetite, etc.

My dogs have stayed at both places and I've had no problems with the care provided by either of these ladies. I second jjr's advice to have your dogs treated for kennel cough, as well as the other vaccinations required for your pets.

Shameless self-promotion:

Does anyone know of a GOOD boarding facility in Guadalajara or of a person, as mentioned in prior posts, who would watch my Great Dane, gerta, while I go back to Texas next week to take care of some things before school starts? She is a very well-behaved indoor dog, but she is large and often times, without meaning to, she evokes fear in some, or shall I say most, people, especially here. Needless to say, I feel relatively safe in the Guad area with Gerta at my side. I must find someone who will love her and not mind her slobber...

thanks for any help?
