Just a warning about getting crowns done around here. I foolishly spent a lot of money 5 years ago getting crowns done on my teeth by the local dentist and now every week one or more of them fall out ! It's very embarresing and as pensioner I'm reduced to carrying a tube of crazy glue everywhere I go so I can put them back in -for a while ! until the next time one falls out, this happens all the time so I just wanted to warn anyone who's thinking of going the same route.

Don't.

They were quite a bit cheaper than having them done in Canada where I came from, but they still cost me $3,000 US in Ajijic and now I wish to God I'd never had them done.

I found that the dentist in Ajijic was in such a hurry to get them all done in one day he removed so much of the original tooth that there is hardly anything left for the crown to adhere to and so now they keep falling out.

I've returned to Canada now but as a pensioner on a very low income I'm now facing the high cost of either having them done again or getting false teeth.

Be warned

Bob, I am sorry you had a bad experience here with a dentist, but that could happen anywhere and in any country. There are some excellent dentists here in Mexico that are cheaper and do the same quality of work, and sometimes better, than in other countries. I have my dental work done here and have had no problems. Some of the work was done over 10 years ago. Like anywhere, with any kind of service you hire, you should get some references, before making a major repair. For the price you paid in Ajijic, it sounds like you had a major repair job. Once again, sorry for your bad experience.

Hello Don,

Thanks for you sympathetic reply about my Mexican dentistry problems. I wa spurred to write it when I saw some recomend the dentist who did this bad work for me Dr. Alberto Don Olivera of the Chapala "Maskaras" clinic.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in about him, charming admitedly but a lousy dentist as far as i'm concerned. Especially as the work he did five years ago cost me $4,730 Canadian dollars.

By the way another two fell out this morning!
