Cats

I hear lots of people refer to their dogs, but not many people refer to pet cats. Is there a problem with having cats in the area? We have a couple cats and haven't decided whether they will be making the final move or not. They are indoor/outdoor cats and I am concerned about trying to convert them to indoor cats, if needed.

Since our dog died a few years ago we probably won't get another till we get settled again. Sounds like there are plenty of pups that would love a good home, but I guess that is true everywhere!

Hate to think of parting with my kitties though.

I've seen several kitties around...one or two in the shops even. Also at the tianges on Wednesdays I've seen dogs AND cats for sale.

From what I hear, dogs are pets and cats are just part of the house! :)
I love taking pictures...check out my prints for sale @ http://Rosacalaca.dpcprints.com/

Hi Mickey, Just about everyone I know has a cat. They don't stay in the house, they play in the garden, not the street. One friend brought their cat from Saudi where they were working, the cat came in a carrier to London, to Chicago and to Mexico and made out just fine. Just thought of another person whose cat also came from Saudi. Most of us bring our cats in the car, some make arrangements with the airline to have the cat(s) in a carrier(s) in the airplane with them, as long as the carrier fits under the seat in front of you like carry-on baggage. This is how we brought our two, as I personally would not put them in cargo. The vets here are wonderful, used to small animal practice. And many rentals accept small pets with no problem. The reason you see few cats on the street is because most homes are walled and gated and the cats play happily inside this secure place. Who would put a beloved cat out in the street? All the cat foods are available here, from Science Diet, etc. at the pet stores, the vets, and from the store at the Animal Shelter.

Thanks to both of you for your replys. That makes sense to me. I was feeling a little blue that I might have to leave my kitties behind. We will be driving down when we make our final move, so it shouldn't be too difficult to bring them.

You know how it is, our pets become family members.

Just to make things clear. The dogs and cats at the market on Wednesday where Anita's Animals is located are NOT for sale. They are FREE to good homes. She probably has close to 100 cats at the moment.

We just got in 6 persian cats if anyone is interested in adopting one.

....and it's raining dogs and puppies at the moment. She has some really cute small puppies and some great guard dogs. I have found that a dog in the house is great protection. Rarely does a house with a dog get robbed.

Her shelter is located on the road up to the Racquet Club, on the left hand, west side about 200 feet below the guards gate, number 31. There is a little side road and you just go down it until you hear the dogs barking :)

If you have found an animal in distress please take it to her and she will take it in. She never turns away any animal. She even had a donkey once, although there is also a Wildlife Rescue and Rehab here.

If you can bring her some dog or cat food it would be greatly appreciated. It's a day by day struggle to keep that shelter going. It's also a no kill shelter.

You can see her website at http://www.anitasanimals.com

Not only does Anita have wonderful, healthy puppies and kitties to give to good homes, she also has a bunch of tables of donated almost-new books, paperback novels, romances, etc. If you find a book you like, I think that 200 pesos is a fair price......You are helping buy food for the animals that so need a home, and you're helping Anita who needs to feed those little ones who cannot speak for themselves. Give more, of course, if you can, and give your time to help with the animals if possible.
