Car insurance

Can't Post | Private Reply
All of us have become accutely aware of the need to have good vehicle insurance, due to the tragedy in Chapala last week. I have had an AIG policy from Tio Corp in Plaza Interlago for the last five years. Funny, but on every forum where car insurance is discussed, this agency has never been mentioned. Has anyone, using this agency, had a claim, and if so, how was it handled? I am up for renewal and checking out other options, but will stay with Tio if I can get a good review or two on how they handle claims. thanks, T

T - I am not with Tio and as you said I have never seen them mentioned either good or bad. I can tell you that when I was with Rachel Reyes in Chapala that I had a claim with AIG insurance and they took 4 1/2 months to pay me for an accident that was not my fault. I finally received payment after my Agent was calling once or twice a week. Drop AIG and get another company. I just signed up with Parker Insurance in Riberas. Try them.

There are a half dozen good companies in Mexico.

Based on other people's advice, I went with :
Jesus Tejeda AXA insurance
Jtejeda@hotmail.com

We had a claim and he was right there for us. What more can I say?

The other insurance issue was with someone else driving the car. I just looked it up and
my Lewis and Lewis policy says specific that any fellow gringo can drive my car with an
FM whatever. Mexicans may not as they would not be insured. I suggest you look up
bail information, and whether the insurance will help you if driving someone elses car.
I would be very very leary of driving someone elses car unless you know the insurance
covers you or your insurance covers you driving other peoples cars. Hey just what we
need more stuff to figure out. Actually the Lewis and Lewis policy is very readable and
in normal english. My wife the Lawyer was surprised. Now we did buy the extra coverage
that is offered so I do not know what a standard policy covers.

Funny. Left Parker to go with Tio Corp, when Parker started charging a 15 dollar "office fee". Come to think of it, do not remember any responses either way for Parker, either. Really would like responses from those who have had claims and what the response of their agent and insurer have been. PS Tio Corp is now charging an "office fee" as well, so my mini protest had zero effect and am still in the same boat, so to speak. T

I understand that Mexicans are not allowed to drive a foreign plated vehicle, unless the owner is in the vehicle. I understand that foreigners are allowed to drive other foreigner's vehicles, but the owner of the vehicle has to contact their agent and cover them as a driver prior to them driving the vehicle. I ask for the best possible car insurance, each time I renew, as it is so inexpensive down here. I do have the "get out of jail free" option in my current coverage through Tio Corp.
Have you had a claim with Lewis and Lewis and how was it handled? Z, I want to hear from folks that have had a claim that was satisfied in a reasonable amount of time and to their satisfaction. and the name of the agent and the company Thanks for your response. Appreciated. T

No T I have not had to file claim. I was just pointing out the obvious difference with coverage from policy to policy.
Folks READ your policy. It says alot and it may not say enough.

Regarding other tourist drivers quoted from policy.
"With your permission, any Tourist with a valid drivers license may drive the vehicle whether they are listed on the policy or not."

Regarding Bonds and legal fees quoted from policy
"Legal Services $100,000 for Attorney fees: Cost of Defense: Bail: Fines: Assessments Arising from civil and/or Criminal
Procedings of the insured vehicles."
