Bubba's Bad Dream
Can't Post |
Bubba nodded off this afternoon as is his habit since he is a geezer but awakened with a start after having had this terrible dream that has him afraid that he may be losing his sanity. It seems that Bubba is back in Sonoma County (Northern California Wine Country) where he lived for many years and discovers that this precious place has been taken over by a large contingent of well-to-do Mexicans attracted by the area's beauty and amenable climate. The Mexican's are very happy in Sonoma County but have taken the time to note a few deficiencies in the place and the local population. The first thing they note is that people are generally overweight and tend to eat starchy and fatty foods in excessive quantities. They set out to educate the locals on proper eating habits by suggesting that they adopt a dietary regimen similar to that historically followed in Mexico to improve their health. They suggest, forcefully, that Gringos give up the refined foods and greaseburgers to which they have become addicted and return to a diet of unrefined corn meal and frijoles that served their ancestors so well. Then they notice that the locals have no common sense regarding irrigation and water conservation methods. The local vineyard irrigation methods are both antiquated and wasteful of precious water resources so the Mexicanos commence a campaign to educate Gringos on proper water resource management. The Mexicans have only just begun to migrate to Northern California so they may not be cognizant of local variances in rain cycles but they refuse to let this ignorance impede their zeal in helping benighted locals by expounding views suited to those useful in their homeland. Of course, the local Northern Californians were exultant in their praise for their Mexican saviors and thanked them effusively for saving them from their own ignorance regarding both their eating habits and land management techniques. All I've got to say is, thank God for multiculteralism. Then, I awoke to reality in a cold sweat. What has this to do with Ajijic and Lake Chapala? You tell me.
