Another Gringo Arrested - 2 years on the lam

  | Private Reply
WASHINGTON POST headline: "Convicted Corporate Executive arrested in Mexico after 2 years on the lam"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...95.html?hpid=topnews

If my memory serves me correctly, this person was a topic of conversation on one of the local forums a few months back. The same photo as in this article was also provided. Wonder how many people might have known her?

There have been numerous media reports on this arrest but the one posted above appears to have more details than others. The article has some very interesting comments and observations not only about this incident but about the area in general:

1) On the infamous Border promotion by real estate agent, LaDonna Farrar:
"Farrar, who moved from the state of Washington to the Lake Chapala area with her husband 19 years ago, said plenty of people reinvent themselves when they arrive from the United States.
"You can tell people anything you like when you come down here," she said. "No one is going to know.""
2) Having read a recent report in a Guadalajara newspaper that said 70% of all illegals in MX are from the U.S., I am amazed by the following:
"But someone grew suspicious of Carol Ann Marrero. Local immigration officials received a call from an anonymous tipster who said the woman didn't appear to be in the country legally, said Raul Eduardo Padilla of the National Migration Institute in the state of Jalisco.
She was arrested when she could not show immigration officials proof of legal entry and legal stay in Mexico. Mexican immigration officials were not aware of the warrant against Parrett at the time of her arrest, Padilla said."
If the above statement is true, I would say that the Justice Department got lucky with this apprehension. In prior conversations back in June, there was a mention of a $10K reward. I wonder if the informant who turned her into MX Immigration will benefit?

So the FBI was looking for this woman and tracking her down and you seriously think the Mexican Immigration was not aware of it? How naive can you get?

Please re-read my comments and please take note of my use of statements like "if the above is to be believed". This is a media report and I am certainly aware that they do not always get it right.

Tell me John:

Why does the arrest of this person please you? If they arrested everyone running from the law or falsifying or puffing their past at Lakeside, you could shoot a cannon down Colon and not hit a foreign soul. If phoniness was a crime everybody here would be under a life´s sentence. I feel sorry for this woman who just became too brazen and was apprehended. The Wall Street and Washington thieves are far more adept at their craft. They would not have been caught in Ajijic but would have established a comfortable existence in Sao Paulo or Santiago. Give me a break.

I´m one of those who championed your return to this forum and welcome your return for your entertainment value and I´ve never laid eyes on you. Send us your photo please and then let the unfortunate story of this particular miscreant rest. The only reason she has made the news here in the land of multiple crooks is that she got caught. Hypocrisy multiplied by the millions.

Hound Dog - I must be missing something in your post. I don't understand your logic. Sorry, I don't agree with you. All people who break the Law and run should be apprehended and receive due sentences. Her crimes were monumental in $ amounts. If Wall Street and other Politicians steal, defraud or take kick backs, they should be arrested too.

These low life theives never worked a day in their life and earned an honest living. They live off the poor and middle class hard working honest people. Let us hope others get caught too.

Are you speaking, John, of the commercial and investment bankers who nearly destroyed our heritage or this flim-flam artist who they just arrested and who allegedly defrauded a few in the process? Let me say this. In the 1970s, when I was a young bank examiner, a friend and colleague left the confines of the Regional Administrator of National Banks and went to work for Wells Fargo Bank designing a new product which was the securitization of multiple mortgages into presumeably investment grade paper. He and others among those of us charged with protecting the public interest in maintaining a sound banking system, defrauded the U.S. economy with their fraudulent activities and, today, he lives in a mansion on multiple acreage in Northern California worth a thousand times what your home in Arroyo Sur is worth even afer the fall.

Don´t talk to me about thieves until you figure out who the thieves are to begin with. This woman was a pawn in the game. The real thieves never end up in the hoosegow. They are in charge.

Given the Dawg's allegations, the attachment contains a suggestion to amend the standards of the "fashion police" in the Lake Chapala area. With such an accessory, even the Mexican Immigration would be baffled on who they were looking for.
