I want to fly from Oakland to San Miguel de Allende. I don't think there is an airport in San Miguel. If this is true, what's the best way to do this ( fastest, least expensive, and most convenient). Thanks in advance for your response, Chuck.

BJX, just outside of Guanajuato, is the airport most frequently used by those traveling to and from San Miguel de Allende. Take a look also at Queretaro and Mexico City.

There are several airports that one can use, as Jennifer said. I suggest that you compare price and schedule for each. All of these airports are some distance from San Miguel de Allende, with Queretero the closest, and Mexico City the furthest away. Flying to Mexico City, taking an official airport taxi to the Norte Bus station, and then an ETN luxury bus or first class bus to Mexico city is likely to be the cheapest.

I think that Richard meant to "take a first class bus to San Miguel...", not Mexico City.

QRO is closer for a crow, but it's not a shorter trip by ground. BJX is very convenient and just plain a nice place to land. Have a shuttle meet you, $28 bucks:

From Mexico City, take a bus directly from the airport to QRO and take a prepaid taxi to San Miguel.
