Morelia, owning property and FM3 costs

I have often read that depending upon where you live in Mexico there may be a reduction in costs for FM3s. Can anyone tell me their experience with this in Morelia.

Thanks, Diana

Are you thinking of the possible reduction in the amount of monthly income if you own a property?

Upon request, INM may reduce the monthly income requirement of FM-3 and FM-2 applicants by up to 50% if the applicant owns his or her place of residence in Mexico. This is not limited to Morelia; INM requirements are the same throughout the country.

Thank you. Can you also tell me if this is more easily accomplished by applying for the FM3 while in Mexico or by applying in the USA.

I think the OP wants to know if the Morelia office, in fact, does give that reduction in income.

The Michoacan INM delegacion may grant the reduction. It has done so for many applicants. However, since the language in the statute does not mandate that*must* grant the reduction, the possibility that it may not be granted always remains.

I've never known anyone who was granted the 50% discount when applying for the FM-3 outside Mexico. The operative words in that sentence are "I've never known...". IMHO, you'd be wiser to apply for the FM-3 at the Immigration office in Morelia.

Your mileage may vary.
