An interesting and humorous article about San Miguel Allende from today's LA Times Opinion section.

I'm not vouching for or backing anything in the article. I just found it to be worth reading. Remember, though, that the author is a columnist and humorist.

Damn, our new place doesn't have a dog washing bathroom. I feel cheated.

LOL, very funny article and seems to confirm a lot of what we've heard about San Miguel. That's OK, we still want to visit!

Okay, okay. The article had it's fun with us SMA'ers. That Sunday house tour is not to be missed, especially when you have out of town visitors who have been with you for a few days and you're out of things to talk about or show them. Yawn.

Somewhere behind the bling in SMA is a large population of Mexicans going about their daily lives and trying to ignore the tourists. Out of Centro, there are less affluent retirees puttering in their gardens and just enjoying the great weather. The trouble is, you'd bore yourself and your readers writing about them. The hoohah folks "living the dream in San Miguel" are so easy to caricature that it's like simply quoting the exact words of certain politians to get a belly laugh.

Meanwhile, it's a great place to visit, gawk, eat and hang out for a few days. Y'all come on up, now. Now, about that dog bath......

The fact that this post appears in the Chapala Forum says something (although I'm not sure just what). I miss the old days when the Bajio Forum was full of energy from folks who either lived in SMA or visited frequently who shared information about the area. Now, with the exception of Cynthia and a couple of others, what little is written about San Miguel is just barbs and occasionally cutesy little articles mostly poking fun at the expat community.

There are several very active forums in San Miguel and environs. Check them out and note that the residents are alive, well and posting there. I think the action faded after the San Miguel Forum morphed into the Bahio forum. After all, you folks on the Chapala forum don't have to share it with distant places.

For as long as I've been reading posts on Mexconnect, people have been poking fun at San Miguel. Every once in a while one of us pokes back, just to keep things upright. No harm done.

The reason it is in the Chapala forum is that I'm not smart enough to move it to another. I always just turn on to the whole thing and am only vaguely aware that there are different fori (forums). It has nothing to do with lack of energy among the denizens of the Bajio.

Of course, since they are all rich Texans busy bathing their dogs, it is understandable that they are somewhat uninvolved in most aspects of life.
