we just rented a house in Guad. and need to furnish it with everything (beds, couches, iron/ironing board, plates, sheets, etc.... Besides purchasing all of these items from stores - are there any places i should look to find expats who are leaving the city and need to sell their stuff??

Thanks

Take a little trip down to Ajijic on Lake Chapala and check the bulletin boards at El Torito Supermarket and at Super Lake (just east of where the Libramiento ends at WalMart). You can also purchase the Guadalajara Reporter and check the classifieds for bazaars or yard sales.

We, too, are furnishing a (second) home in Guadalajara and so far have found the following:
a practically new sofa bed with two footstools for $265 US; an equipal table and four chairs for $55 US, a complelte "cocina integral" (kitchen sink, cabinets, over the stove vent, base cabinets and wall cabinets) in excellent condition for $415 US, among other things. There are frequentlty moving and/or estate sales in that area and they are a goldmine.

This past Saturday the Rotary in Tlaquepaque had a yard sale. Read the local classifieds in El Informador and Guadalajara Reporter: you'll be amazed at what you can find. Also, there are stores that sell used/refurbished appliances and they are good, and at a much lower price.

You can also try looking at www.mercadolibre.com.mx if you are familiar with craigslist its the same deal but for mexico. You should also take advantage of the fact that Tonala is near by and you can buy tons of art and really beautiful hand made furniture on the cheap, and most vendors are willing to bargain.

tonala has some amazing things for your home/apt. they are closed on mondays and some of the expensive furniture places do take credit cards.. you can spend the whole day. its about 10 minutes from the main bus station closest to the airport and there is a big "TONALA" sign on the highway.
