Vacation in Manzanillo

Can't Post | Private Reply
In January my wife and I are planning a 2 week vacation in Manzanillo. We try to avoid the large resorts. Does anyone know cost-effective places to stay? We are also planning to stay a couple of days in Colima.

Thanks
Tim McNally

Hello,

Manzanillo seems to me to be a rather industrialized town. I know that there are some resort condominiums and luxury hotels there, but I wonder if you really want to spend 2 weeks there.

I, myself, would rather spend 2 weeks (rather a long time) in Barra de Navidad or even Melaque, or La Manzanilla, or some other location along the Costa Alegre.

Think it over. Adiós. jerezano.

Downtown Manzanillo is part of a busy industrial port.

The smaller, quieter and less expensive hotels near some nice beaches are generally located on the north end of Manzanillo, in the Santiago or Saluhua area.

(The all-inclusives and luxury hotels are also located in this general area.)

It's been a few years since I stayed in this area so will not make any specific recommendations. However this part of Manzanillo also has small restaurants and shops and it's an easy bus trip downtown.

There are few budget hotels in Colima City. Have stayed at Hotel Nuñez and it was fine. Most other hotels in the centro have higher rates.

Comala has an older funky hotel. When I checked it out, I thought I might stay there someday, 'for the experience'. I like staying in a wide-range of situations and that hotel is near the 'rodeo' ring which I would be checking out.

Comala also has two newer B & B's which by several reports are beautiful and pleasant to stay in. However prices will be more like $80 a night to stay there.

Sorry I can't give you more information.
In recent years, I now stay with friends in both Comala, Colima City and Manzanillo which I enjoy much more than hotels.

There are some excellent web-sites about both areas so you should have no difficulty finding places to visit and enjoy.

We love the Hotel Posada in Manzanillo. See www.hotel-la-posada.info We are just back today from our 5th visit there. Never a disappointment.

Agree. La Posada is a wonderful choice. Prices are around $55 US per night (less for locals of Chapala area). Rooms are simple but clean. The sala is a good place to meet others if you are so inclined. The owners and staff are very hospitable and helpful.

The price in no way indicates the quality of the establishment. For that price one would not expect anything as nice as you find at La Posada.

From there day trips to many areas of the Costa Alegre are quite practical.

We spent some time in Manzanillo last November and had to find a hotel there quickly as I was not feeling well. Unfortunately we were not able to get into La Posada as they were booked through March, but found a very lovely and spotlessly clean hotel just about 3 or 4 buildings to the North of La Posada. It was called Brisas del Mar. They had a lovely pool, air conditioning, and a very nice restaurant where they even served a large banquet style buffet breakfast one morning. We saw also local business meetings taking place there, so thought it must be popular. It is right on the ocean where you can watch the ships coming in and see the coast to the North. Will try to send you a photo attached if I can figure out how to do it on this forum.

I want to point out, that we spent the first few days of our trip (we had a rental car) at a beautiful resort further to the North called Blue Bay Los Angeles, however, the rooms were not to my liking, although the staff was very accommodating and kind, even though we had to cut our stay there short due to me getting sick. It is about 2-1/2 hours to the North, not like Expedia told us. They said it was 3.4 miles!!! from Manzanillo.

But if you have exclusive taste, you may try getting a room at Las Hadas, an exclusive golf resort, fabulous place with million $ views, but pricey. Sometimes one get lucky and find a hotel there for about $105 though. Another recommendation is The Dove Cove Inn, which many recommend, although it's difficult to get a reservation there too. It's close to Las Hadas and I heard someone say you can sneak into Las Hadas from there and enjoy their restaurant, etc.

Another nice surprise we had finding a lovely restaurant run by Austrians or Swiss? along the main road called Pergola. You may try it, although there is no shortage of good restaurants there. Have a wonderful time!
