Seafood at the Beach

Can't Post | Private Reply
Well, in a week or so I am once again driving over to Puerto Vallarta from Guadalajara and wish to stop for lunch on the beach somewhere in Nayarit in one of those neat little beach towns between Las Varas and Sayulita. Every time I do this I am ambivalent about every turn off to the beach until all of a sudden I´m in Bucerias. Do any of you have any suggestions as to a place for lunch on a nice beach preferably with good mariscos and other seafood? If so, please give me some rudimentray directions so I can find the place. I´m not against waiting until Bucerias if there is something special there as I am driving all the way to Mismaloya.

Thanks if you can help.

I would try San Francisco (San Pancho as it is affectionately called by locals)it's between Lo De Marcos and Sayulita and is a very charming, calm, clean little town. It has fancy hotels kind of out of the way but if you just went straight on from the highway to the beach (maybe 1 km)you would see several restaurants and some of them have French pastries and real coffee. There are two of them right on the beach and I know they serve fish and seafood but unfortunately I can't remember any names. The Gallo pizzeria half way between highway and beach has fine dining and good live music on weekends.

Don Pedro on the beach in Sayulita has terrific Baja mussels and roasted-beet ravioli.....Punta Mita is torn up by construction, but the grilled prawns at Margarita's are superb... so are the margaritas!

Thanks to both of you. I take it Camille, that you are warning me away from Punat Mita because of construction. If not, grilled prawns sounds good. Is that in the town of Punta Mita? Saluyita and San Francisco both sound great as well. I presume these places are all open for lunch.

Prawns on the beach, Bubba....Margarita's occupies the southern one of the two three-story palapas, and a restaurant called "Manana" the other one. Don't know if it's open as the owner/chef died... probably not. I'll confirm that Don Pedro in Sayulita is open again for lunch tomorrow, when TelMex finally fixes the land line. They close in September, October could be dinner only, but I'll find out. And don't miss that ravioli!

Speaking of Ravioli as Camille just did reminded me of a dingy cheap hotel but with damn good service in Ajijic that I stayed in for a night, has an Italian restaurant on the first floor. Can't remember the name but I think it had something Italian in it's name. Anyway, best Italian food that I have had in years. Just a thought for eating out on you way almost home.

Iffen I rekomber korrekly, it's about two blocks from the East side of the plaza on the street that meets the plaza on the north end.

aaahhhhh... That's it. Just reminded me why I only stayed one night. It's real hard, if not impossible to sleep 50 feet from a church bell...
