North of Puerto Vallarta

We will be arriving in Puerto Vallarta next week, and are interested in spending time in several of the
towns to the North (we have only visited Sayulita before). We would love to hear from anyone familiar
with the area as to which towns have ATMs, internet access, and accommodations for frugal travelers.
We could be in the area for up to two months, so longer term rentals are a possibility.
Any information given would be greatly appreciated, Thanks and Happy New Year!

I hear that Sayulita now has an ATM machine, but I doubt if San Pancho, Lo de Marcos or Rincon have.

One of the places you might be interested in visiting/staying is Playa Chacala, which is a bit north of the area you mentioned. It was pretty much a fishing village. Google it. It is remote (this is good!) but has been built up in the last decade. Somewhat unique to this village on a bay is that a program (Techos de Mexico) was started a few years ago wherein locals could get loans to 'add to' their homes and thus rent out rooms/suites for another source of income. This has been pretty successful and a number of low cost accommodations now exist on this pristine bay. Of course there are also other places one can stay here if frugality is not in their vocabulary!

And Villas Las Olas, villasolas@yahoo.com , in the Zapata colonia of Punta Mita, has very nice apartment suites, completely equipped kitchens, wifi, cable tv, very reasonable and clean. It's about seven miles south of Sayulita, close enough to enjoy the magic and maybe have quieter nights....

Lo de Marcos does have an ATM located at the Pemex on the highway at the turnoff into Lo. It has been in operation since 2008.
