New Highway Planned?

A source here NOB told me that there is a new road in the planning stages from somewhere around Nuevo Vallarta 'due north' to around Rincon, cutting off a lot of that narrow hiway 200. Has anyone heard this rumor?

Hello,

Look back into this forum for highway construction from Tepic to Puerto Vallarta(or at least to the border of Nayarit). The state of Nayarit is planning and has started construction of a major highway from Tepic south to reach the New Riviera. It will be either 4 lanes or two lanes with half lane shoulders.

jerezano.

I follow the forums pretty closely and didn't remember any mention. Just looked back through this forum and don't see anything. Did a couple of searches and didn't come up with anything.

Can you be more specific?

Hello RickS:

I agree with you. I can't seem to find any mention on the forums although I know that the posts are there. You might look for Bucerias and for Jerezano, because I posted some time ago about the initiation of the construction from Tepic to Las Varas.

In the meantime, here is a real estate blurb from Chacala back before 2006 which tells about the plans which were initiated then. All I can say is that the state of Nayarit is carrying through on those plans to open up Tepic to the new Riviera Nayarit and has inititiaded this year the construction from Compostela to Las Varas.
________________

>>>>>>>>>>>The Nayarit government’s plan for Chacala center on three major improvements: 1) The widening of the highway (from a 2-lane to a four-lane) all the way from Bucerias past the Chacala turnoff; 2) The construction of a new International Airport near the town of Zacualpan (no more than a 15-20 minute drive from our development, Chacala-by-the-Sea); 3) The construction of a 150 slip boat marina in Chacala Bay (Chacala-by-the-Sea looks down on Chacala Bay).
The reports of these new developments was affirmed in the February 2004 meeting of the Corridor Turistica group where it was announced that the money for these improvements had been raised. Also, many sources confirm Vicente Fox’s (the President of Mexico) ownership of an important stretch of beach located just one mile south of Marina Chacala's southern-most boundary. All three of these planned improvements will not only benefit President Fox and Chacala, but our development, Chacala-by-the-Sea, as well. It is generally conceded that President Fox has the power and political allies in Nayarit to make sure these improvements are implemented. One of those allies is the governor of the State of Nayrit, Sr. Echevaria, who has reportedly been buying land in and around the village of Zacualpan, the supposed area for the location of the new airport.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Hello Rick S.

Here is more information from February 2008. It talks about the overall plan but says nothing about the construction now in process. My understanding is that the Compostela-Las Varas work was initiated early this year but I have no actual knowledge. Perhaps somebody who has traveled that route recently will respond to you. As for your specific question which started this thread I cannot answer it either. But here is the plan:
----------------------

>>>>>>>Tepic, 2 of February of 2008.
An agreement of Governor Ney González Sanchez with the Infrastructure Undersecretary of the SCT, Óscar de Buen, ''will enable a project, wished for by Nayaritas for many years - the highway system of the Riviera Nayarit'', affirmed the Secretary of Planning, Pablo Montoya de la Rosa.

''Already there is a concrete agreement and we have determined who is going to build the highways, and which will be built by the federation and which by the state. The state of Nayarit will be beginning work, as the Governor announced in his second address, on an ambitious road plan of statewide highway concessions:

The first between Tepic and San Blas, the next between Tepic and Compostela, another between Compostela and Las Varas, and the last one would connect Las Varas with Bucerías, and all of them of four lanes ''.

This civil employee clarified that ''the federal government is going to also make its own freeway: the one that comes from Jala to Compostela and from Compostela to Puerto Vallarta. This is going to give the region a great transportation infrastructure for the integral development of the state ''.

With this, he added, ''the nayaritas will have open highways north to South which is the side of the state showing dynamic growth in tourism.

Thanks, Jerezano,

That pretty much confirms that it is not a rumor. May take a while to complete but it sounds like there is commitment.

It also sounds like that Chacala is toast (meaning the pristine bay I knew is/will be no more).
And as far as Tepic to San Blas.... I found nothing wrong with highway 54 down to San Blas and the last time I was there the hurricane had come through the year before.

I've heard about this as well from a friend who is about to build a house in San Pancho. She heard about it from her architect who heard about it from.....who heard about it from.....

If even half of the development planned for the Nayarit coast comes to be, it seems inevitable. And necessary. I, personally, won't miss the patch between Compostela and Las Varas.

For what it's worth, when I drove from San Pancho to Guadalajara in June, I saw no indication of major road construction, just regular maintenance. Doesn't mean it wasn't going on somewhere though.

Does anyone know if there is a start day agreed to?
We travel that route at least twice a year.
