I recently rescued a 3-month old puppy (Jack Russell mix) from the streets here in Guadalajara. A few years ago I was able to find homes for dogs through a local animal adoption society, but they seem to have disappeared. Now I'm thinking about taking her to Austin next month if my son can find someone to take her. From what I've been able to find out, the only thing you need to import a dog into the US is a health certificate. I'll be flying with Continental Airlines and found this information: Continental and the USDA require that your pet have a Health Certificate issued by a veterinarian dated within 10 days of travel for both the outbound and return trips. I also found this: The U.S. Public Health Service requires that pet dogs and cats brought into this country be examined at the first port of entry for evidence of diseases that can be transmitted to humans. Dogs coming from areas not free of rabies must be accompanied by a valid rabies vaccination certificate. Has anyone had any experience with this? Kim
