Guadalajara street closure on Sunday

Can't Post | Private Reply
My husband and I are about to drive from California to Guadalajara. We have rented an apartment in Colonia Moderna. We will be driving from Mazatlan to Guadalajara on Sunday, December 2nd. I remember that some of the streets are closed on Sunday for walkers, cyclists, etc. Does anyone know what hours the streets are closed? We want to be sure we arrive after the streets are opened.

I also want to thank everyone for their contributions to this forum. I read it daily and it has been an invaluable resource for us. This trip to Mexico is a 6-month test run for us to see if Guadalajara is for us. We plan to study Spanish intensively. Then we plan to return to California, pack up our belongings, and move permanently either to Guadalajara or perhaps another location in Mexico.

Muchas Gracias,
Linda

Hi-

They close Vallarta (between someplace downtown and Minerva) and Chapultapec, between 8 AM and 2PM.

We live in this area and there are PLENTY of other routes to take to get around the street closures. These are the only 2 streets that are closed. Getting around is still easy in spite of the closures.

Good luck with the move!

Another heads up for weekend drivers: on Lopez Mateos north of the Periferico you can not make a left hand turn on weekends. For example: if you go to Home Depot and want to go south on Lopez Mateos you can not. You have to turn right going out of the lot and take the back road to the Periferico, get off at Lopez Mateos sur and you are on your way. It can just add to the confusion for a first time driver in Guadalajara on weekends, but it greatly facilitates the traffic returning from Lakeside and the coast on Sunday nights.

I drove on López Mateos from Guadalajara to Ajijic on Sunday evening just at sunset. What a pleasure! Instead of a parking lot, López Mateos was a real freeway. All the traffic lights along López Mateos are permanently green during the weekend, making the trip either direction fast and wonderful. Less than an hour from Guadalajara to Ajijic on the BACK route...what a joy!
