David, if you write a short story, I'll be happy to link to it from Planeta's Jalisco page. That is one beautiful picture!

Anyone compiled info on circular piramides in Mexico ... if the info is linkable to an era. After running into the circular pyramids next to UNAM in DF I keep noticing more here and there.

Supposedly the history of the pyramids near UNAM are not well known but predate Teotihuacan considerably

Hello,

There is a circular pyramid--or rather the remains of one--near Ixtapán del Río on the way from Guadalajara to Tepic, Nayarit. The placques say it was dedicated to Quetzacoatl.

Adiós. jerezano.

David, thanks for sharing the beautiful picture. You indicated in your post that it was a "day trip". Is that day trip from Ajijic? I am not sure where in Mexico you are now living. Also, do you know if there is a tour bus from the Lakeside area?
We would love to go there while we are in Mexico next month.

Went again yesterday - Sunday. Best visit on a week-day or Saturday morning.
I forgot to check the time driving from Ajijic, but I would guess about 90 minutes to 2 hours depending upon how touristy your driving speed is.
Technical - From Ajijic, drive through Jocotepec turning towards Guad on highway 15. Join highway 54 going towards Guad and continue until you reach Sta. Cruz de las Flores. Take the Retorno back towards Colima and immediately exit right before the highway overpass to join that highway to Tala. (See Tony Burton's book about the incredible church in Las Flores). Continue on highway past Tala until you reach highway 70. Turn left towards Puerto Vallarta. One mile later you will turn right off this highway and start on highway 4 towards Teuchitlan. At Teuchitlan turn right at the Pemex and go through the town and out the other side where the newly laid cobblestone road will take you directly to the ruins. You can easily spend 2-3 hours there. There are guides there who will escort you in a group - if you want. The tours are in Espanol.
The drive is beautiful through open agricultural lands with mountains in the distance including the Tequila volcano.
If you start early enough you can return by continuing on highway 4 to Magdalena (opals) where you can either do the Cuota through to Guad to get home, or, stick to the libramiento and go through Tequila first.

Enjoy!
