Comala Hotels

Does anybody have any fairly current information on hotels in Comala, Colima? We are planning a trip to that area in May and would appreciate suggestions. I would prefer to spend a day or two in Comala instead of day-tripping over from Colima.

It's a very short distance between the two places, so day tripping would not be that bad - but, here is a forum for the area that might produce some results - they have a Colima/Comala section:

We have had nothing but excellent experiences at Casa Alvarada....Jupiter posts as "Comala Host" on the mentioned website.

Last year, I stayed at Hostal Comalli and Spa, Reforma No. 193 about five blocks from the plaza.
Patricia has two villas, set in a lush, tropical garden setting. Villa Las Flores has 3 large double bedrooms. Villa Comalli has one bedroom with kitchen and bathroom, suitable for a couple.

There is a lovely pool, kept very clean and covered when not in use. An outdoor but glassed in exercise room and another larger palapa with exercise bikes and room for yoga classes.

The sidewalks do tend to roll-up early during week-nights in Comala. Restaurants stay open longer on the weekends.

It's about a mile walk or bus-ride to ex-Hacienda de Nogueras, one of my favorite places in Mexico.

Check out the museum, Eco-parque, the salon de eventos, the restaurants.
And say hola to mi amiga querida, Emilia Rangel Brun, curator of El Museo de lejandro Rangel.

Another very good hostal in Comala is Hostal Casa Blanca, on Calle de Degollado. It's very close to the central jardin (square), very clean and rooms are $400-600 pesos. Breakfast is served, there is internet, and it is very friendly and comfortable. www.casablancacomala.com, 312-307-2417 (US # 541-490-0939).

Not a hotel answer, but, when you go to Comala make sure to go to the museum of the painter Rangel. It is not to be missed. Also, the restaurants in the plaza have a kind of "botana competition": you get an awesome selection of botanas free of charge with your drinks. On Monday we were there and for 300 pesos had about six drinks and more food than we could eat.

Agree. The botanos served up under Los Portales beside the plaza at Comala, are very tasty.
Plus many wandering musicians compete for your listening enjoyment and dinero.
If Mariachis Real de Colima show up. Ask them to play. If you're a Mariachi fan, you won't be disappointed.

Also there are several much larger botaneros, located on both sides of the highway, near the entrance into Comala. These have live bands and dance floors.

The Colimense(people from Colima) have an agreeable habit, at least to my liking, of opening these eating/drinking musical establishments in the early afternoon. For a long lunch/mini-fiesta.

After which, many people go back to work/school for the evening. Most botaneros close up around dusk, 6-7:00 p.m.

There are several teaching/technical colleges in the nearby vicinity of the two botaneros on the highway. The places literally fill-up with laughing, dancing students for a few hours in the afternoon.
