Celebrating New Year's Eve

Hello folks,
This New Year's Eve will mark my tenth year of living in Mexico. It's been a great experience and I've been very busy working as a freelance translator. But sadly I can no longer enjoy a few beers with the boys in the local cantina, and if I go out dancing and drinking on New Year's Eve I'll have to stick to Coca Cola.
About five years ago I started noticing that four beers was too much. I got terrible headaches and a hangover. A year later three beers was too much, and now I'm down to one beer.

Curiously, when I travel to Austin, Texas or Germany alcohol causes no problem. And the only difference is the elevation. So I've come to the conclusion that Guadalajara's 5,040 foot elevation is the culprit. I'm 62 years old, so maybe age factors in too. I'd like to know if anyone else has had the same experience.

Any how, I've decided to travel to sea level to celebrate the New Year and was wondering if Manzanillo would be a good choice. Can I expect to have a hard time finding a hotel or are things pretty quiet there this time of year?

Wishing you all a happy New Year,
Kim

You can expect to have a hard time finding a hotel room in Manzanillo. This is a huge holiday season for Mexicans and Manzanillo attracts many snowbirds, so it is high season there. Check things out in this Manzanillo online guide:

Kim, when New Years rolls around each year we routinely would go to our local dance club and celebrate with the people we’ve known for many years. Like you, there comes a time when you want to mix it up and do something different for a change

Since we enjoy socializing in festive evenings like New Years, we’ve had good luck in going to the nicest and largest hotels in the area were there is live danceable music, cocktails and party favors are readily available. New Years is a time we really enjoy letting our hair down and partying.

The nice thing about Manzanillo, cabs are plentiful during the holiday season and you can really get 3 shades too the wind and short of them caring you out on a gurney to a cab, you can have a good time, commiserate, dance and still brace your way home or wherever your staying when your ready to leave.

We’ve visited a gorgeous hotel in Manzanillo called the Barceló Karmina Palace and beyond the to die for water fall Multi-pools available there is just great ambiance, and the largeness of this hotel would certainly have party plans for New Years. I don’t know what your budget is nor am I recommending you stay specifically there, but certainly many will be visiting there just to party.

If anything, I usually have good luck calling the hotel concierge and enquire as to what’s happening in town and where the action is for New Years.

Buena Suerte
