The restaurant at the Virrey de Mendoza is my favorite in the heart of downtown. Supreme service, live piano, white tablecloths, and excellent food. And reasonably priced. My second favorite, a little bit out of downtown, down on the Calzada is Casa de la Calzada. Its owner also owns the Hotel Casino, and the restaurant under the portales, which is part of the hotel, runs a close second. Also downtown and noteworthy are: Las Mercedes – the chicken Kiev and pollo Azteca are superb. Casa del Portal La Azotea (above Hotel Los Juaninos) Los Mirasoles Bizancio Las Viandas de San Jose For comida corrida, I recommend El Tragadero. And another just two doors up, is a delightfully decorated new restaurant, La Gueracita, IIRC. Satisfy your sweet tooth (as well as partake of a light snack) at Dulces Morelianos De La Calle Real.
