My favorite doctor who has the best English is an internist who specializes in infectious diseases. He was trained at Vanderbilt and is a Fellow, a Diplomate, and certified by the Board of infectious disease specialists in the US. He's Dr. Francisco Delgado and he works out of Hospital de la Fe, 152-2233. Since probably what your daughter (or you) might come down with is turista, and you may want to have it checked out to be sure, he'd be the one anyway. De la Fe was started by gringo fund-raising and is a private hospital of only about 15 beds, but there are something like 27 specialists on staff, with offices in an adjoning part of the hospital. I've had two procedures there and doctors back in the states said that the doctors here did everything right. Still, when it came to something very serious, I went back to the States. There is a General Hospital in town which is mainly for Mexicans with the government insurance, and care there can be outstanding or poor, depending on what you have, who you get, etc. (like mosst US hospitals too). Gringos who have had something routine like a broken leg say they got wonderful care there. Anyway, Dr. Delgado is fantastic--we're constantly having to watch out for US hospitals trying to lure him back. If he couldn't handle something, he'd know the best person to refer you to. I don't know any pediatricians, sorry, no one I know has little kids here. Not that there aren't any, I just don't know any. Carol Schmidt
