Zihua to Morelia and environs

I'm interested in combining a beach trip in Ixtapa-Zihua with a drive inland. Can someone give me an idea of how far it is (how much driving time?) from Ixt-Zihua to Morelia? To Patzcuaro? To the butterflies reserve?
Do tour agencies in Ixt-Zihua offer tours, say, to see the butterflies in the winter--or is this something you have to arrange in Morelia? What are the lodging options for a visit to the butterflies area?
Thanks,

We drove from the Pátzcuaro area to the Troncones-Ixtapa area in about 4 1/2 hours. If you were headed the other way, you can add 35-45 minutes to Morelia.
The butterfly sanctuaries' towns, in eastern Michoacán, are another 2-3 hours further on.

The Lonely Planet Mexico Guide, 10th edition describes several loding options at Angangueo, closer to the most visited sanctuaries, as well as in and near Zitácuaro, a little further away but well within range.
You can also search for hotels on http://www.zonaturistica.com/.

Buen viaje,

We took a tour to the butterfly reserve from Patzcuaro and it was an all day thing. From Zihua it would be an over-nighter. Angangueo is close to the border with Mexico (state)
