Would like to meet expats in Guanajuato

Howdy,
My wife and I plan on retiring to Mexico in a couple of years and have begun looking at places to begin our life of leisure. We are visiting Guanajuato the third week of December and would appreciate meeting any expats close in to the city. I read in this forum that there used to be a regular weekly time for expats there getting together; tried the email on the thread but it was bounced back. Anyone have an update? For other advice, especially regarding colonias areas of the city to investigate, or other connections, forums, blogs, etc. we will likewise be grateful. Cautions? I've read here that some consider Guanajuato to be claustrophobic. Are there places close in that don't give that feeling? I've been driving around town on Google Street View and the neighborhood near the ball park looks pretty cool.

We're thinking of spending a day in San Miguel de Allende, noticing that lately the listings on Craigslist Guanajuato have seemed a better value in SMA than GTO. Ideas?

In addition to the climate and ambiance of the central highland colonial cities, we would like to live in a place where the arts play a large part of life, especially the performing arts. Suggestions?

Try this site. I've used it to find apartment, but they list all types of property. http://mexico.inmobiliaria.com/

Thanks, I'll continue to check in on this site. We're looking to rent and figure the "en venta" is for sale and "en renta" would be for rent. Verdad? Do you know of any expat meetings in Guanajuato or San Miguel?

You can wait for a mention of the brunch to pop up on the forum, or better yet, join the forum, and ask the time and location of the brunch date you are interested in.
