Where to find Jamine and Basmati rice?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Anyone have a source for jasmine and basmati rice? Used to be available in small, way over-riced cardboard packages in Trico, Mega, and Superama...but no longer. Maybe there is a place in Mexico City if not Morelia...?

Mega and Chedraui stock boxes of Jasmine. I believe that I have seen Basmati there but not sure.

Costco Morelia had Jasmine Rice about a year ago, but when it sold out, they didn't restock.

I'm also approaching a basmati-jasmine rice crisis. :-)
Last year, I ordered some from Amazon.com, and a friend brought it over the border, but now they travel by bus, not car, so that source has dried up.

The basmati and jasmine rice that was up until recently stocked in Mega, Superama, and Trico was packed in very small cardboard boxes, was very expensive, and of poor quality. The brown rice sold in large brown bags in Trico Morelia is economical, and excellent.

Anonimo, Ill let you know when I find a source for Jasmine and Basmati rice. I also used to bring back large bags from the states, but I just dont have the space to continue doing so...

It WAS at the Costco GDL. They sold it in large yellow bags. I went this past week and there was none..... who knows if they will stock it again

We are going to Mexico City this weekend, and I'll check likely sources, such as Mikasa, in Colonia Roma; El Dragon de Oro, next to Mercado San Juan, Centro, and other shops nearby.

I found another large Asian foods supermarket in Mexico City through some round about Googling. They carry jasmine rce, but apparently not basmati. Kokeshi Market http://www.kokeshimarket.com.mx/

It's located rather out of the way for us, in Colonia Del Valle, so I doubt I'd be getting to it on this trip.

Buen provecho,

They look like the place on Av Las Amricas around the corner from Lopez Mateo in Guadalajara. If it is the same place it is a Korean Market with a few other Asian products. No basmati for sure.
We have basmati at Superlake in Ajijic as well as Jasmine rice so not need to go too far for us.

La Suiza, in the Mercado San Juan, Mexico City Centro has Basmati rice. One kilo, $70 pesos.
Jazmin rice, somewhat less. Like $55.

El Progreso, on Calle Aranda near Calle Ayuntamiento,
Also has Basmati, but it's $40 something a pound.

I didn't see any of either rice at Dragon del Oro.
