What to do around Irapuato?

Hello Everyone,
I'll be traveling to Mexico in the first week of March with my wife & kids. We'll leave Port Arthur, TX, on March, 7th. We'll arrive in M. Muzquiz, Coah. that evening. We've rented an apartment there until we finish building our house, so we'll have a place to stay that night. We are going to leave our 3 children there in Muzquiz with family and take my wife's grandparents with us to Irapuato. Her grandfather was born on an old hacienda outside of Irapuato. He owns a large piece of land that was part of the old hacienda, but his cousins and their children work his land as they do their own. They grow fields of strawberries as far as the eye can see. We wil stay there in the house where her grandfather was born.
We would like to find some things to do as day trips from Irapuato. We have until the 17th, so I need lots of things to fill the itinerary.
Or, our other option is to stay in Irapuato only a couple of days to get to know the family, then we could leave her grandparents there to spend time with the family and we could go somewhere like Guayabitos or PV or some other resort type area for 4 or 5 days to enjoy some relaxation and sand and sailing if available.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
