Truth in advertising--I think it will hit 32 tonight

Just to warn anybody considering coming to these parts right now--we're having a cold snap and this morning the leaves and flowers at the ends of the branches of the poinsettia trees are wilted, and my herb garden is dismal. Everything else seems to have survived, but tonight I hear it's supposed to hit 32 F again.

Few Mexican buildings have any heat so check your hotel to see if your room will be cold. We had to have a propane furnace (one that looks like a fireplace) put into our apartment last winter and we're glad to have it. We use about one tank of propane a month, around $60. Back in rural Michigan in an old country church with high ceilings that we bought to turn into a home/art studio, our propane heating bill was $425 a month!

Everybody in our complex started to use electric space heaters last winter and we kept blowing the electricity, which is why several of us went to propane. It's been 70-75 and sunny by day, but the nights have been killers. Long-time residents say this is unusual. Hmmm.

Carol, people have short memories. Two or three years ago when we were there for Christmas it did the same thing. Maybe they want to keep the myth alive that it doesn't get cold in the winter--but you are right about it warming up in the days.

maybe you guys will have a white xmas! i am sure that never happens. sounds better than the may i spent in sma. the hottest may they had had in 100 yrs. it was brutal. i kept wondering why they did not use swamp coolers as we do here in new mexico because they work wonderfully in dry climate . i think i figured it out....they use too much water. i do like those warm days and cold nights. we have the same here my lettuce is tucked away in the cold frame with this wonderful thing called a thermal blanket over it . we have gone down to 21 and the lettuce and spinich and kale are still doing great. dolores

About 5-6 years ago a December freeze broke waterpipes all over town and killed every leaf on the trees in the Jardin. The temps are about the same as always, maybe just cold for more days-in-a-row than normal.
