The September Fiestas
At long last the schedule of events for this month long celebration is out. We shall take it a week at a time but noteworthy are the changes made by the organizing committee as follows:
As we had already mentioned, the date of the running of the bulls—Sanmiguelada—has been changed to the fourth Saturday in September, namely September 27th, starting with a parade of the newly elected queens of the festivities at around 11 a.m. followed by the bulls at 12 noon.
The traditional alborada in honor of the patron saint of San Miguel starts around 8 p.m. on Friday, October 3rd and continues throughout the night and at dawn on Saturday various groups will sing the mañanitas to Saint Michael Archangel. Festivities will continue all day long!
The big fair behind Gigante will open for business around September 15th. This is where the set up the mechanical games and usually have dances in the evenings. It runs for a month and makes access to the Tuesday Market difficult.
On Sunday, August 31st drop by the Jardín around 6 p.m. and vote for the Queens of the Fiestas and enjoy musicals and presentations by the famous actor Roberto de Llano.
On Monday, September 1st, at 7 p.m. at the Teatro Angela Peralta a show features the Ballet Folklórico Infantil plus talks about the history of San Miguel.
On Wednesday, September 3rd at the Sindicato a piano festival presented by Lourdes Ruzsa and Adriana Martínez at 7 p.m and a baroque music concert at Bellas Artes Auditorium at 8 p.m.
