Tequis is one of the nicest towns in all of Queretaro... alot of Europeans spend their holidays there for the hot springs and the fire opals. Most are part time residents and weekend getaways for people from Mexico City, I spent 5 years in the area (just moved last Sept.), nice and quiet, no real nightlife, infact alot of people will say it is boring. I like to think of it as a peaceful, small town... They have been working on the highway from San Juan del Rio to Tequisquiapan for over a year and there are alot of improvements coming, movie theatres, Costco, etc. Prices like everywhere else in Mexico are going up - a 3 bedroom, 2 bath rental is about $600 and up nowadays. Above town, by the police station are some great old quiet neighborhoods, big trees, 1960's era homes. My only word of advice is services do currently suck (yes, they accept mordidas), the laws and politics of the state of Queretaro are very heavy - the main reason why we finally left. Immigration has good people, but can be sometimes difficult too. Getting a driver's license is a real pain - if you have a friend in San Miguel de Allende, use their address and get one over there - plus, the US Consulate in San Miguel is the best place to get your Passport renewed too, with your only other choice being Mexico City (2.5 hours away). Just past Tequis is San Bernal... if they ever get their huge service problems worked out, they are trying to make the monolith into a big time tourist zone with housing tracts, wifi, etc. This was supposed to all be available in 2006 and it looks like a few more years before it could possibly become a reality - Mexico is slow___________________ Buena suerte y paz, BIL VOTE MAYAN ...For A New Tomorrow!
