Our cats are like our children. Nothing but the best.

In the states they ate only Science Diet, both cans and dry food. That is when they weren't eating at the table with us :-) The only store we have found so far in Cuernavaca that has Science Diet asks $2,50 per small can ! Does anyone happen to know of a more affordable source ? I'm willing to buy cases if need be.

Also - for years now we have used pine pellets for the litter. Fortunately we brought along a couple bags but we are starting to run low. Has anyone seen pine pellets suitable for cat litter in or around Cuernavaca ?

What are pine pellets? Are they a form of pine sawdust? If so, I'd be looking for a sawmill or a maderista nearby, perhaps at or above Huitzilac, or near Ajusco.

Here's a picture of pine pellets for litter. I think in some places they use these, or something like them, for fuel. They are not really sawdust. There is process where a bonding agent is added and then the mixture is added to a machine which I guess exudes the pellets like noodles. ??

You can find that at many pet stores under the brand name Cama Plus.

I have been buying it at Maskotas for years.

I do not have cats so I do not know about the pricing on the food but I do think they sell it there

Chuck, the name of the pet supply store is +kota. That plus sign, in Spanish, means mas. And mascota means pet. It's a play on words: mas in this case means 'more', so the store carries more for your pet.

Hi fellow cat owners!
I love pine litter myself and really miss it. I live in San Miguel and tried ordering it from Petco. It came, but because it is heavy, it is expensive. I don't know what kind of mail service you have there, but try ordering it.
There is lots of Science Diet foods at the vets here in San Miguel. In Queretaro and Celaya at the Kota pet stores they stock some American cat foods like Science Diet and Purina Pro Plan. Of course the flavors are limited which breaks a cat owners heart. Look for a Kota pet store near you.
I have been struggling for 6 years in Mexico to give my cats a good diet-know where you are coming from. Recently I am told by my mail service that at the Mexican border, you can no longer get any dry cat food forwared to you. I had been ordering some from Petco. Really sad news.

Actually - where we live the +kota stores seem way way overpriced from what we are used to. And - when we finally gave in and went there to buy CamaPlus, turns out they no longer carry it.

BUT - just this week we have found a workable alternative at Liverpool of all places ! We picked up a 25 kg bag of the same veg based litter they use in the cages in store. it is called BioGan. It is so much like the pine stuff you (and the cats) can't tell the differnce, Total cost was 400 pesos which is a lot better than the 130 pesos for 3 kg of CamaPlus !! We have tossed the Wiskas clumping 'cement' into the trash.

Now we will tackle the quality cat food issue. I'll let you know...

My expierrence for our Labradors is that Pet Food made in Mexico of the same (USA) brands and flavors are no where equal. First the costs are very high even though made in Mexico. Secondly my dogs will not even look at the Mexican made brands and flavors but love the same USA brands and flavors. I now buy my bulk dog chow at Sam's in McAllen, TX. when I come up for my VA Appointments every three months. It is the same with canned food of health care products.

I almost always have enough room in the Tahoe for a few extra bags of bulk and some cases of canned. If you wish you can contact me to make such arrangements. I( am currently in McAllen and leave here on or about the 23rd to come home tro San Juan del Rio, Queretaro.

Thanks for the email. I will keep your contact info. I was told the last time in N. Laredo that I could only bring in one bag of cat food. They were about to consfiscate all the bags I had. I no longer go North but once a year now anyway. The Purina, etc, is not the same in Mexico. You are right. And there are no flavors, either, of cat food. La Connection in San Miguel will not even try to forward the food I order from Petco. I buy Costco brand dog and cat food which at least is made in America.
Where do you shop in McAllen for pet food? What do you charge for your service?
I just want Purina dry cat food in various flavors for various purposes..I am so frustrated!

We have a Liverpool here in San Miguel. I will look for pet supplies. Never thought of them. Kota is so MUCH higher priced that any thing in America. I know. Costco's cat food is supposedly highly rated by vets and is made in America. It has no dyes in it . Since I have a lot of cats, I have been using it as a maintenance diet. It is about $275 pesos for a big bag.
Thanks for the tip about the litter. The litter bill is killing me.
