SMA - Casa de la O - Your Thoughts?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello everyone - I am planning for my spring trip to SMA and think I might want to stay my first few weeks at Casa de la O, a B&B on Indio Triste.

http://www.casadelaosanmiguel.com/

Has anyone here stayed at this place? I would LOVE your thoughts.

Note that even if I do decide to stay there, it would be only for the first few weeks -- too pricey for my entire up-to-three-and-a-half-month visit. I am trying to decide whether to reserve just 10-14 days there and try to find a more "permanent" place right away ... or reserve a whole month there and spend a little more time looking for the "permanent" place.

The first option would be risky if I couldn't find a place I liked better and there turned out to be no option for staying longer at Casa de la O. The second option would be risky if for some reason I really didn't like it there and was out $1,200 ($40/day me & my son, bed plus 2 meals) for a full month's stay.

Thanks for any thoughts, ideas, advice.

I live in SMA and have never heard of this place. I looked into "The Insiders's Guide To SMA" which is one of the local trusted guides to the city and is updated every year and could not find the place. However new places open every day.

The location is ok on the edge of the centro but the web site does not mention 2 meals. Is your son staying for free?

I am not sure what Spring means to you but if it begins in March the town is going to be emptying of tourists ASAP after Easter. April and May can be hot and it will be hot untill the rainy season starts in June. Your B/B has fireplaces which are great for winter but in April and May we start using evaportaive coolers and in May we head to the beach and a/c.

Currently there are lots of places to rent in SMA and I think staying a month in the B/B is not required.

Hope this helps.

Just heard some news that caused me to look at the map of SMA. The street this is located on is in an area in or very near an area where a street gang operates. They can be found in all areas of the town but some areas are safer than others. I had never even considered how close this street is to places where a person with a child should be not be walking at night IMO.

Look somewhere else again IMO.

San Miguel is a relatively safe town, but there are street gangs in more than one area. No matter where you are staying, if you're talking about walking with a child at night, you may want to reconsider your timing. Daytime would be better.
Good journey.
