Do you know of any good pictures of this mural? There is also a very famous one in a church nearby? I am having trouble finding pictures of Juan O' Gorman's work, I have all the english language books on Mexican muralists. I am a fresco painter myself - one of the few, possibly the only one, in Canada. I am also an architectural sculptor, so O' Gorman interests me because he was also an architect.

Do you know of any books in Spanish language on Michoacan fresco/murals?

SHould I cross post this over to the Michoacan forum?

Sorry for all the question marks - but you seem "in the know, and in the now".

Hi Gary...you can buy a great photo (it's available in a couple of sizes) of the O'Gorman mural in the Pátzcuaro library. I've looked at many sources, but I've never seen another good reproduction of it. If you're interested, I'm going over there the first week of December and would be glad to pick one up for you. I don't remember exactly how much they cost, but I believe the poster size is not more than 150-200 pesos. I don't know about the other mural you mention, but again, I can ask around over there.

I don't know, right off the top of my head, about books on this topic in Spanish, but I'm sure there are some. Let me scout around a little bit when I get over to Pátzcuaro. If you want to PM me, that would be fine.

Gosh, for somebody 'in the know and in the now' I sure say "I don't know" a lot. :)

That would be great! You don't seem to be signed up for private reply (???). Email me (remove spamblam) and tell me where to send my rubles, pesos or dollares. Do you have a 'airborne express' office - half the price of courier, but 10 times more reliable than mail.

Now the hard one - can you find me an assistant who looks like Salma Hayek(like the movie Frida) but with the talent and personality of Frida Kahlo!

Nope, 'private reply' is not an option on your posts. All you have to do is click 'allow private reply' in your profile, you don't have to reveal a email address if you don't want to.

Thanks so much.
Can you tell me anything about the Gran Hotel and the others. Like prices, bathrooms and if they have heat. I heard that the concordia is chilly and I'll be there in February, so it may not be a good choice. Unfortunately, the guide books don't really get into this. How about La Salud?
Whatever you know will be helpful. The web doesn't have much. Mostly talks about the high end ones. Also saw La Mariposa (outside of town) (not La Casa Mariposa). It's $15 and is a big house. But I don't know much else Ever heard of it?
Thanks again,
Vanyöska

Ay Vanyoska, there's no heat anywhere that I've ever stayed in Pátzcuaro. We just layer on blankets at night, keep our socks on, and grin. I once did stay in a hotel on the big plaza that had a fireplace in the room, but it was August so there was no wood available. Unfortunately it was also freezing cold at night...three thick wool blankets were about enough. Michoacán is a chilly state a good part of the year, at least at night.

Last time I stayed in a double room at the Gran Hotel (February 2002) it was about $30/night, and all rooms have a private modern bathroom and everything so clean you could eat off the floors. A single room would be a somewhat less costly, I think. The hotel has a nice little restaurant on the planta baja (the lobby level)...breakfast there is a real treat, and not expensive. The COFFEE in Pátzcuaro and Uruápan is the best in the world, IMHO. I'm heading over there on Dec 2; if you can wait till Dec 5, I will check the rates for a single room at the Gran Hotel for you and post here when I get back.

Hey, Thanks so much.
while I was checking tonight in some books and on the web, I came across Posada de la Salud for $15/night, Hotel Santa Lucia ($16/night), and La Casa Mariposa (415/night). The latter one isn't in town, but nearby and the combi stops out front. Looks nice and has fireplaces, but I don't know when the combis stop or how frequently they run. Still, of course I can use blankets. Do you know anything about these places, as they seem nice and may be less expensive, but nice options. I'll be traveling around in Palenque and into the jungles, in Oaxaca, Puerto Angel, Taxco and Teo. and want to have enough $ to do things and buy some things.
On my last trip, I was with my boyfriend for a month's trip around out of the way places in the Yuc, on the Golf, in Oaxaca and San Cristobol and we stayed in much more expensive places and spent a lot of money and rented a car for part of the time.
The time I'll be almost a month, by myself, and busing around (not in a rented car and then "airplaning" it between places). So, I have to be more careful with my money.
Thanks so much.
And if you have any info on any of these places, and your place and anything else you could suggest for villages, for doing in town, etc., that'd be great.
Have a good trip!

Do you have any pictures?

Events in Patzcuaro around December

Can't Post | Private Reply
It was my pleasure to spend a week in and around Patzcuaro from December 24- January last winter.

During our time in this town, I discovered that there were several 'event' brochures available.

Two were available through a tourism office and published by the Michoacan tourism department. It outlined a schedule of public events running at this time in the town and in the surrounding area. The other publication was a photo-copied local publication outlying events being held in the town's many beautiful colonial churches. This one I just picked up in a church entrance. Events like choir and drama performances, often included children and youth. A lot of cultural events seemed to be happening...and a week there only gave me a taste.

With great flavor! Sincerely Wendy

The Hotel Mansion Iturbe does have electric heaters in its rooms, and I believe that Casa Brunson does as well. Just outside of Patzcuaro, on the road to Santa Clara de Cobre, Hacienda Mariposas has heaters in its rooms.

do you know anything about the hotels with heaters. Although, I probably don't need them, I realize. anyway, what about transport at night to Hacienda Mariposasa? It looks nice, but will I be isolated or have to take a taxi which will just make their $15 price increase? What about the others you suggested?

Hotel Mansion Iturbe faces the Plaza Don Vasco. Casa Brunson is on Dr. Coss a few doors away from Once Patios.

To reach Hacienda Mariposa, either rent a car or take a taxi. The management there is very accomodating, and they should be able to work out transportation for you if you desire.

Thanks again. I guess my concern is the cost of a taxi if I have to take many of them. Do you have any idea how much they cost at night to town? And do you know anything about the Mariposa and the other Casa. Iturbe is definitely out of my range on this very extended trip I'll be taking all over the place. Thanks again,
Vanyöska

Hacienda Mariposas http://www.haciendamariposas.com and Casa Brunson phyllis@mail.ml.com.mx both are more costly than the Mansion Iturbe. A taxi from town should cost several dollars.

Thanks so much. Anyway, there is a Casa Mariposa which seems like a big old house near the lake a bit outside of town. It has a web site and its rooms are $15/night. This is the one I meant. We had a bit of a comunication problem. I probably indicated the wrong one.
thanks for everything,
Vanyöska

The Hotel Fiesta Plaza seemed warm enough when we were there in January a number of years ago. At least the agua caliente was plentiful
