Finally made it to Patzcuaro. I really loved it. What an interesting and colorful place. As to heat, it was about 59 degrees and it rained all day Friday. Saturday it was beautiful.
The trip was just a scouting trip, but I intend to return for at least a week some time this summer. Between the Patzcuaro area and Uruapan, I'm sure we will keep busy with no problem.
The one thing that stood out in my mind was the massive number of small stands in which people were selling the kind of stuff we see at the Ajijic tiangius. I don't know if it was tiangius day (Friday) or not, but it dawned on me that while the whole thing was colorful and indicated a lot of entrepreneural spirit, it also indicates that there is a severe lack of jobs in the area. Lots of people selling things to each other and lots of goods left over at the end of the day.
In the evening we sat outside our hotel and watched the people in the plaza - one of my favorite activities when we travel. People kept coming to our table and staring. At first I thought we must be very interesting. Then I found that in the restaurant behind us, a Mexican soap opera star was sitting at a table and watching his own soap opera. That was interesting. I have no idea who he was, but wish I did know.
The best part of the whole trip, though, was that I ran into the world famous former poster on the forum Miguel Palomares. I had an opportunity to thank him for his interesting postings that ended a year ago or so. I really enjoyed the opportunity to speak with him.
