RECENT MLM TRIP

Hi all! Just a quick report to those who care. Flew going and coming on Continental's daily flight which arrives MLM 8:00PM+/-, leaves MLM 8:00AM+/-; a 2 hr flight both ways, non-stop. The price is right, the planes full (only 50 pasgrs) so plan a week or so ahead. Taxi to town 1650 pesos as I recall....
Stayed at Hotel Casino..the rooms on second floor nos. 2 thru 7 face on the main street a block from the Cathedral: a single is 67.50, not modern but comfortable. The view from the room is a Chinese Fire Drill until about midnight.. view, priceless. Two new restaurants nearby (since 2001). Resturante Ortiz next door and new 3 story Sanborn's in the next block. Cathedral now illuminated at night..beautiful....Taxis are 80 pesos per hour..I'm too fat for the packed combis..so I sprung for the grand tour..new bus station puts airport to shame and nearly as far from El Centro. Went to the orchidarium. Cruised up to Santa Maria but didn"t see our moderator so viewed the city from the flag monument..spectacular!...If your thinking about going, don't wait. You wont be sorry. I first went in 1943 and it just gets more and more beautiful. John P

As the CO flight circles Morelia before landing at MLM, the city reveals itself in spectacular fashion, golden bracelets sparkling around the newly-lit Catedral. The new CO flight from IAH to MLM has really opened up travel to Morelia, as has the Aviacsa flight to Monterrey.

The taxis from the airport operate on set zone fares, and the most costly, up to Santa Maria, should run about $220. Downtown is somewhat less.
