We are looking for a nice place to stay in or near Puebla in September. Would like to hear any and all recommendations of Bed & Breakfast places and/or any and all Hotels that you have heard about or stayed at and would recommend or not recommend.

Meson Sacristia de la Compania, http://www.mexicoboutiquehotels.com/mesonsacristia/
is my all-time favorite. Pricey, but ah-so-worth-it. At the very least, have lunch there. You'll want to lick the plate, because the food is so good.

Another option is the Camino Real in Puebla, which often offers packages and is a little easier to deal with if you want to easier access to your car.

Since you're planning to be in the vicinity, Tlaxcala bears exploring. There are some rather nice hotels downtown, but the real sleeper is the Centro Vacacional Trinidad, just on the outskirts. http://www.imss.gob.mx/.../Vacaciones/trinidad
The place has remarkable grounds and is open to even those not enrolled in IMSS. It's so inexpensive that you'll be able to afford a few nights later at the Meson Sacristia de la Compania without breaking the bank. The restaurant at Trinidad is sort of geared to convention fare, fully as exciting as a meal at Sanborn's, but adequate.

I stayed right on the zocalo last summer and really enjoyed it. The hotel is not fancy but adequate, and cost about $400p a day for a single, including breakfast. Their sidewalk cafe is very popular at all hours. I met interesting people (residents) in the lobby bar, which also serves snack food (sandwiches, etc). I was there on Independence weekend, and it was so much fun because of everything going on the Plaza. I will stay there again, next time. Can't think of the name of the hotel right now, but respond if you are interested and I will look it up. I think it is the only hotel on the plaza.
