Parking options in Guanajuato

I get it that driving in Guanajuato is problematic at best. We plan to park our car when we get there and cab/bus/walk our way around. Problem is, where to park the car where it will be secure and at reasonable rates? Any suggestions?

Although I never drive to Guanajuato GTO, I am aware of a parking lot that is a one-minute walk from the Jardin de la Union, the principal plaza. It appears to have security 24/7 and is well lit. I typically stay in a casa de huespedes that is also about a minute walk from the parking lot. I have e-mailed the casa's gerente for information about cost and availability of spaces for visitors, and well let you know what I hear. Rock

Hello cookj5,

Guanajuato hotels have secure parking. At least the ones that are 3 star or above. In fact even some two stars have it.

If you're planning to stay at a hotel while you are there, there should be no problem. Some B&B's also have secure parking.

We lived in GTO last winter arriving in our king cab 8ft truck. Parking was a nightmare! We lived in El Centro which is mostly pedestrian only. Streets are super narrow, super steep and one way ...never in the direction we needed. We would occasionally get desparate enough to park in the cental garage, but it was very expensive even by NOB standards so a day was it. We eventually learned our way around the tunnels, finding parking spaces that were well lit and where we could eventually re-surface to find our home. We would check the truck most nights just to be sure the alarm system had not gone off. Other than the bed filling up with everyone's trash and our attenna disappearing, all was well. We did have someone offer to watch it for a fee...probably should have let him? I will say it was a bit scary as we came into the tunnels one night and as we slowed down about 20 young men jumped into the back of our cab. They rode in the back for awhile until my husband finally got fed up enough to get out and go back and yell at them. Now given all of this....we absolutely adore Guanajuato and have purchased the tiniest little plot there. We will be there again for Thanksgiving and then back in January for more language school. You will love it, just park the car in the tunnels and then forget about it!
