No water

We're renting a very nice house in Colonia Caracol, but discovered this morning that the house had not had been receiving any city water for the last three days, and as a result the cistern ran dry. There are three apartments in the house, all currently without water to wash, flush, etc. The manager said the city offices had told her the water would be back on by 8 this evening, but that didn't happen. Now she says she's going to contact someone to come (I guess with a tanker) and fill the cistern, which will give us enough for three days or so. Just in case the person she's contacting isn't available, anyone have any other contact that might be useful????

The new mayor has appointed a sort of ombudsman for San Miguel to deal with the foreign community. I don't have his name and phone number--call or see Col. Phil Maher at the American Consulate across from Belles Artes and get it, or even ask Maher what to do.

I happened to see a truck that delivers pure water for home use, parked on Ancho San Antonio, and the phone number was 152-0660. You said the manager was going to have some water delivered that would fill your complex's cistern for about three days. Maybe you and your neighbors could just call the water delivery service yourselves and chip in and pay for it, if you're not getting any water from the city, until they come through.

Sorry you're having such a problem during your visit here. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

Hi, Carol -- thanks for your input. We finally got the local apt. manager's attention and got water delivered yesterday; and I think the city water returned last night. So we're showered, flushed, washed, etc; and happy. The maid was very helpful --a real sweetheart, lugging buckets of water in, calling a plumber for the leak we discovered in the toilet (probably why the cistern ran dry in the first place), mopping up and so on.

This is our third trip to SMA, and we really love the place. Like many others (maybe too many, in the minds of some of the long-timers!) we're thinking about spending several months of the year here, renting a place here and renting out our home in Austin. I'm retired, doing some free-lance writing; and my wife is semi-retired, so it's feasible for us. It is a major step, though -- so we'll see.

Thanks again, and take care.
