There’s plenty of variety in Morelia’s nightlife. If you’re under the age of 25, there are any number of swank discos open to around 4 a.m. And there’s Señor Frog’s. If you’re a lecherous old man, on the road to the airport and over on the north side of town are plenty of adult entertainment centers which don’t close until around 6 a.m.

The Colibri, downtown, is an excellent peña in a haunted building.

Downtown has some excellent restaurant-bars, and the Virrey de Mendoza’s bar is a work of art. Morelia has plenty of options for every taste.

It would be helpful if you described what you’re looking for. High culture? Mid-brow culture? Ballet and the symphony? Something quiet and romantic? A gay bar? A country-western bar? A coffee bar? A pulqueria? A sleazy bar?

Jennifer, how could you possibly know about some of those options?? (I won't say which ones!)

Seriously, you're spoiled for choice in a city like Morelia; so Enjoy!!

is there any one place in particular that you would suggest? is there somewhere with drinks, food, live music? chill, cozy, no crazy out of control kids?

It's just too hard to recommend only one place. El Colibri's late-night and definitely worth a stop, particularly if you've never been to a pena. Even if you have, the building is very interesting. The Virrey de Mendoza's bar is woody and intimate, with tones from whomever may be playing the grand piano in the lobby wafting in. Los Mirasoles is a restaurant/bar across the street from Las Mercedes, and it's known for serving an interesting variety of drinks. All three are within wakling distance of one another in the Centro Historico. Sometimes, and I forget which night, there's jazz at the Casa del Portal, which sits atop Burger King (the entrance is on the side street) across from the Virrey and the Hotel Alameda. La Azotea, the bar/restuarant atop the Hotel Los Juaninos is elegant and has a great view of the city.

Emilianos, over near Servicentro, has a lively bar scene with a mostly yuppie crowd tossing their peanut shells on the floor.

San Miguelito, cater-corner from the Convention Center, has a great restaurant and a bar that resembles a bullfighting arena. It gets high points for ambiance and decor.

This is all really helpful, I know it could be difficult to recommend places, thank you so much. I've been seeing the same places mentioned on different sites so I guess those are the spots I will check out first. This is all so foreign to me, I've been to Morelia plenty of times but always with family to visit family and did the family thing, this time I'm still going with family but I'm gonna try venturing off. I also have to get over the fact that it's gonna be me, a single woman in my late 20's, showing up to these places by myself...but that's just my own phoebia

thank you all so much

Coffee culture is very big and very trendy in Morelia, with a number of coffeehouses along Madero and its sidestreets. The downtown Sanborn's bar and restaurant is popular among locals who are trying to pretend they're not part of the bar scene.

Under the portales are a number of outdoor cafes, and the impromptu entertainment there can run from really bad soloists to tuna.

And I forgot to mention Casa Mora, across from the Tarascan Fountain, an interesting cafe/bar in a restored old building along the Callejon de Romance.

If you have wheels, Ayer y Hoy on J.J. Tablada in Santa Maria is a neighborhood cafe/bar in a restored old stone building.

There's always some kind of gallery exhibition going on someplace in town, as well as the usual menu of concerts.
