News from San Miguel March 5, 2003

Today was the debut of a new weekly cable TV show done by San Miguel folks, every Wednesday at 6 pm on channel 3 for half an hour. It was light on actual news but did have an interesting feature on the botanical gardens and nature preserve on the edge of town. The show was supposed to start two weeks ago, that time the screen said tune in Friday at 6, there was nothing Friday at 6, and I missed it if anything actually appeared last week (though I heard something did and the producers apologized for it). It was a nice little effort and I hope it grows.

For those who can't get San Miguel news on a regular basis there is a website, www.sanmiguelchronicles.com, which features quite a bit of actual news items. And if you are interested in a sort of neighborhood chat list about all sorts of things, heavy on the war right now of course, there is www.coollist.com, go to regional, then North America, then SMA and sign up. You'll be bombarded with all sorts of stuff but you can probably find out what you need to know sifting through the chaff. (I'm part of the chaff, I admit, as a frequent poster.)

For those of you already here, isn't it glorious weather this week? Time for the annual debate on whether it is appropriate for gringos to wear shorts! All the plants we bought at Candelaria in early Feb. are blooming their fool heads off. The city is a riot of color.

Saturday, which is International Women's Day, is also the day of a performance of Lysistra, Aristophanes' play which was the first and perhaps finest feminist anti-war protest. There will be another anti-war protest at the Jardin too.

Thanks to David for keeping MexConnect going and for starting this new forum for SMA!
