Other than placing San Miguel as "west of Laredo," this story tells of a worthwhile venture.

>Forget a booze-addled week at the beach. Instead, a group of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi students will spend spring break doing outreach in rural Mexico.

>Some 44 students left early Saturday to spend a week tilling farms, planting trees, installing computers and helping at medical clinics in the rural area surrounding San Miguel de Allende, west of Laredo.

>"In the rural areas surrounding San Miguel de Allende, many poor families have never touched money and must barter for their livelihood," said Debra Wilson, the trip leader and coordinator for the Center of Academic Success and Advising at the university. "It's anticipated that this experience will
give the students a greater understanding of one's self and values, a clearer picture of social responsibilities, and a commitment to a larger community."

>The purpose of the trip is to immerse students in the daily life of one of Mexico's celebrated artists' communities while performing community service projects.....>

Hi Carol,

I'm not sure how to start a new thread, but I'd like to get an idea from the group about the average age of the ex-pat community in SMA. I'm guessing the majority of retired gringos are in their 60's, but are there folk in their 40's and 50's also? How many are younger people working there??
