Is this a good week to go to San Luis Potosi?

We'd like to hop on the bus on Thursday Aug. 29 for SLP and we'd be there through the weekend. If anyone knows of a reason not to go there, please let me know. We changed plans about going to Zacatecas because of a couple of natives who suggested that we skip it for now.
If you know of any nice places to stay in the Centro Historico, we'd appreciate your recommendations. Is it a day trip to go to Real de Catorce? Are there interesting day trips from SLP that anyone would recommend?
