Interior Design work in San Miguel/Guanajuato?

Can't Post | Private Reply
I am a self-employed residential Interior Designer in the SF Bay Area--15 yrs experience, ASID, awards, etc.
I have longterm goal to live/work in SM or Guanajuato. Could I legally do design workout of my US office. for local expat residents--e.g., fabrics/furniture from US if desired, trips back & forth, but payments in U.S. dollars to my U.S. business?
If legal, is it feasible--any suggestions as to how to reach potential clients?
Such a plan would enable me to begin part-time living/working in Mexico long before retirement.
I will be in Guanajuato 1st week November, San Miguel 2nd wk if any contacts could be made--Thanks!

It blushes of doing business in Mexico, for which a work permit would be required. Obtaining one doesn't take much effort, and it would strike me as the best approach to take.

This seems like to me that you are working in Mexico, for people who live in Mexico, and would therefore incur taxes in Mexico for the enterprise. If the items you use come from outside of Mexico, you also are importing for business purposes, and that sounds like more of the same. Importing is a highly regulated business in Mexico.

I cannot tell you how to get clients but I had an FM-3 which was issued for me to travel and sell electronic products throughout Mexico.

I did not collect any currency but all payments to USA with billed in Dollars.

Many companies in Mexico will not let you beyond the front office without an FM-3. Both they and you will be subject to a fine if your are caught without one. You can obtain a temporary visa at the border which is good for one week.
