Hotel Mansion Iturbe for Jennifer

Jennifer, in your terrific article which I believe had "Serene Magic" in the title, you mention that you are in your favorite room in this hotel

Are all the rooms different? Which one is your favorite and why? Do you suppose I can ask for a specific room when I reserve?

Thank you!

There are fourteen rooms – each just a tad different and each named after a village surrounding Lake Patzcuaro.

The Iturbe rooms are the premium accommodations, and the five Plus rooms are somewhat smaller.

Three of the Iturbe rooms overlook the Plaza Don Vasco, and Room 11 is my favorite. There is one slight hitch with that room: the bathroom door doesn’t stay shut, and it’s directly across from the peering eyes of the statue of Vasco de Quiroga! (Not to worry – it is on a high second floor, and there are curtains and shutters. Those rooms have the best views.

The internal Iturbe room with a private terrace overlooking the courtyard patio is pictured at http://www.differentworld.com/...pages/room_guide.htm. The terrace is shown at http://www.mexonline.com/michoacan/iturbeesp.htm. Obviously, there is no view of the plaza from this room, but it remains one of my favorites, because it’s fun to eavesdrop on conversations below during the happy hour without being seen.

I imagine that the Mansion Iturbe’s many repeat guests ask for their favorite rooms, so it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Write Margarita at mansioniturbe@yahoo.com and ask.

Jennifer, thank you for the thoughtful and detailed reply. I went to the sites you listed and $106 is more than I thought this place was going to cost, unfortunately, because it's exactly the kind of place I would like to call home while we are visiting. (Someone told me it would be $80.) Do you have any suggestions for something like this hotel but more in the $50-80 range?

If not, I guess we'll be in Room 11. :-)

Thanks much!

Kathleen

Except during Christmas, Easter and Day of the Dead, there usually is a promotional rate: Stay for 4 nights or more and your last night is free. Prepayment, I believe, is required. And the rate does include a full breakfast, happy hour, a cover at the Viejo Gaucho and taxes. And parking.

At http://www.michoacan-travel.com/...eng_patz_hoteles.htm is a listing of Patzcuaro hotels.

Another nice place, on Dr. Coss just two doors down from the steps to Once Patios is La Casa Encantada http://www.lacasaencantada.com/.

Jennifer, thanks for the info. I looked at the other hotels and the Mansion Iturbe sure is appealing. So now I have to justify this rate to myself. <grin> So: Is parking normally expensive? And what is Viejo Gaucho?

Thanks again!!!!

Kathleen

El Viejo Gaucho is an Argentinian restaurant with live music which is part of the Mansion Iturbe. Best steak in town (the secret is a sherry marinade), along with empanadas and a wonderful Greek salad.

Hotel rates aren't cheap in Michoacan these days. But they're still less than what I've had to pay when I visit Chicago.
