Furniture Rental in Morelia

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi Folks; My wife and I are currently in Zamora, Mich. staying with Mexican friends, our son's in-laws. We have been offered the use of a small house in Morelia for two months. But it is unfurnished the owner, my son's sister-in-law does not want to furnish it as she plans eventually to rent it long term to Mexican's.
Does anyone know if one can rent furniture for a short period in Morelia and if so where. We would not need a lot.

Any suggestions , advice or contacts would be much appreciated.

Noticing that you've also posted to the Lake Chapala forum, because you didn't get a response here, I'll respond. I live in Morelia, and frankly, I don't know of any furniture rental places in town. If you wanted to rent tables, chairs, lonas and even silverware for a fiesta, that's easy. But bedroom and living room furniture, nada. I suggest that you might more easily just invest in some inexpensive furniture for the time you'll be living in Zamora.

Thank you Jennifer; I was almost certain that you would be the one to reply. We had checked the phone listings on-line and as you say found lots of places for party fixings but only one for furniture. We have been unable to contact that "one" yet.
Meantime we have found some furnished apartments in Morelia as a backup, They are within our budget but libre is hard to turn down.
Are there any used furniture dealers. We found several in Ajijic on our stay there but it is a long haul from Morelia.
Our stay in Zamora has been quite interesting as there are lots of things to do around here and staying with a very welcoming and loving Mexican family is hard to beat.

Thanks for your advice.

Morelia is not Ajijic. I've run across a few used furniture places, but the stuff there is really, really *used.* Believe me, it's not the kind of stuff that you'd want to put into immediate use without a lot of cleaning up. And hardly worth the effort for a 2-month stay. Monte de Piedad has used furniture from time to time, and, except for the antiques, it falls into the same category as the rest of the lot. I really think it's best that you put the notion of renting furniture or buying used furniture in Morelia for a 2-month stay in Zamora out of your mind. Buy something inexpensive fro Walmart or in Cuanajo for the duration, or look for a furnished rental. Or a hotel.

Thanks for the fast and frank reply. We were rapidly reaching the same conclusion ourselves. The offer of a rather nice small but unfurnished house in a modern gated community in Morelia, for free, was just to tempting to give up on easily.

We have allready priced some basic items and will either buy what we need or find a furnished apartment.

Again thank you for your solid advice.

Just FYI...gratis is the word you want here.

The "gratis" house is in fact "libre", isn't it?
At one of the parking garages in Puerto Vallarta there is a sign indicating whether or not there is vacancy. When there is, the sign reads "libre", which has fooled more than one person. The cost is about 10 pesos/hour
