Falling...

I have a new column starting on MexConnect in December, called "Falling...in love with San Miguel." Ironically, apparently to celebrate making my deadline, I fell again, the fourth time in a year and a half, on the SMA cobblestones. I've been a lifelong foot shuffler, and that doesn't work on SMA's irregular sidewalks, steps and curbs.

So far I've only been scratched and bruised, but prospective visitors should know that the warnings about bringing sensible walking shoes are serious.

I'm typing this with my right hand only, as my left hand broke the fall and is hurting through the Advil.

Friends and acquaintances have suffered serious injuries on SMA's "sidewalks" and streets--one required plastic surgury. Watch for wet sidewalks from washing, plant watering and rain. Also watch for quide wires--they can be invisible, as well as awnings and window sills at less-than-gringo heights. Hope you feel better soon--there is a great anti-inflammatory available over the counter if you need it.

Last time I was in SMA (would that I was there now) somehow I managed to step on a nail on the cobblestone streets. Right through my shoe and into my foot. Went to a (highly recommended) pharmacist who gave me a tetanus booster in the store.
