Re: [Bill_N] Effects of High Altitude

Morelia's roughly a thousand feet higher than Denver. Personally, I've never felt any adverse affects, but then I've never felt an adverse affects in Mexico City either. I've heard folks from Ajijic complain that they've suffered setbacks from Morelia's altitude, and I've seen folks from sea level get along just fine. My late mother suffered absolutely no problems with the altitude. I've read that it takes about 3 weeks for a person's system to fully make the adjustment, but most tourists don't have that luxury of time. Take it easy your first few days here. Don't rush around. Allow time for rest and little naps. Eat sparingly. Refrain from alcohol, because it's dehydrating and altitude intensifies its affects. Cut back on the caffeine. Drink lots and lots of other liquids, especially water. (Don't simply depend upon thirst to tell you to drink more water.)
