Driving from Ixtapa to Paracho

Hello, we are planning a trip to Michoacan next year. We want to hang out in Ixtapa as a base. We really want to drive to Paracho during the guitar festival. How are the roads and any estimate of travel time? Does anyone know in which week in August 2003 the festival will occur? Are there Spanish language education programs in the surrounding area?

Hola,last March we left La Ropa @7.00am,arr Uruapan @10.00am,275Km,s.Left Uruapan @ 10.45 & arr Paracho,11.15am.Great new toll road starts 70 Km,s from Zi,there is a by-pass around the end of the lake that takes about 45 Mins on a rough two lane road,just take it easy.Some Campesinos have a m unoficial toll booth at the end of the by-pass,10 pesos will keep them more than happy.Enjoy Paracho,lots & lots of guitars.Salud,Jaime.

Thanks Jaime, does anyone know when the Paracho Festival is? We want to plan our trip to Michoacan coincide with the festival.
