Driving Coastal Road

I will be renting a car nad driving from Zihuatanejo airport to Playa Azul on a Sunday early evening. I will also be driving from Playa Azul to Lazaro Cardenas weekday mornings and back to Playa Azul in the evenings. Are the roads ok and safe to drive? Any driving tips? Also, if I don't rent a car, does anyone have an idea how much taxis would cost, and how easy it is to find one?

: No problem Robert, The time from Lazaro Cardenas to playa Azul is 20 minutes. The road is OK and safe. Exist public transport too. Only exist some "topes" over the road when this cross for a town. The time for a trip from Zihuatanejo to playa Azul, is 2 hours. I recomend precaution becouse exist part of the road whit defects "baches", and not recomend drive in the nigth only. At 1 :30 hrs to playa azul exist a little bay for the road to Manzanillo, "Caleta de Campos" very beautiful place. Taxis ?, i´don´t recomend take a taxi, because can be expensive (the gas is more expensive in mexico ¿? )and not secure. Is a better idea take a bus, and know the people.
Saludos
Ivan

Robert,
I hope You have not already gone. I have driven the road you are speaking of about 3 weeks ago. Ivan is right, you do not want to drive at night, it is a curvey road. It takes about 2 hours, you pass through Lazaro Cardenas to get to Playa Azul. About an haour and a half in the trip you will see signs that say Lazaro Cardinas "libre" and Lazaro Cardinas "Couta". Cuata is the toll road also called autovista (not sure how to spell it)take the toll way it is straight when you get into Lazaro Cardinas you will turn right on Lazaro Cardinas ave, and then follow the signs to playa azul. good luck.
