In Uruapan, the Palm Sunday procession starts at the National Park at 10 a.m. The Concurso de Traje Tradicional (that’s the regional costume competition) begins at noon on Sunday in the Huatapera. Divided into children's, adolescent and adult classes, this exhibition features clothing from indigenous communities for ceremonial use, dances, and daily wear. In Uruapan’s plaza, the Domingo de Ramos Tianguis Artesanal will feature some 1,200 artisans, all from Michoacan, competing for 260,000 pesos in prize money. On the same day, in Patzcuaro, a similar artisans’ market will take place with 360 artisans, 300 in Maruata, and 25 in Periban. Some 48 communities in Michoacan will be participating in these markets.
