SOS! Food and Flag Needed for Thursday

Can't Post |
Alex from immigration just called.

The Americans are missing in action! The Brazilians are bringing food, and so are the Japanese and the
Chinese living in Michoacan. But there has been no response from the Americans living in Michoacan. I went ahead and reserved a table for The Americans, and I'm going to bring something. But we need your culinary contributions. If you can't cook, then let me know how much money you can contribute, and I'll go to Trico and buy the makings for corned beef sandwiches or something typically American.

If you can attend and bring a representative American dish, please let me know.

Last year's event was a lot of fun, and this year's promises to be even
better. But....we need your contributions.

Oh....and we need an American flag. If you've got one, could we borrow it for Thursday?

Re: [jennifer rose] Dia Nacional del Migrante, What a Success!

This year's event was the best ever. More than two hundred foreigners
gathered at the Conservatory of the Roses for an exciting program, welcomed
by Lic. Tomas Galvan Contreras, Delegado Regional en Michoacan del INM.
After a concert of classical and contemporary music, the group gathered for
an international food experience, sampling foods contributed by expatriates
living in Michoacan. Chinese, Brazilian, Cuban, Hungarian, Colombian,
Salvadoran, Greek, Indian, and American food competed with delicious
traditional Mexican cuisines while the participants were treated to a
presentation of Purepecha dance and music.

English-speakers from Patzcuaro outnumbered the Morelia contingent this year.

Special thanks go to Brian and Mireya Overcast for their BBQ'd chicken and
mashed potatoes (which disappeared first), Amy Basaraba for potato salad,
and to Suzan Apaydin for her pecan pie. And to the Familia Camorlinga
Solberg for the loan of the American flag.

If you'd like to be included on the invitation list for next year's event,
please e-mail me with your name and nationality.

That's great news Jennifer! Good work. Actually, I want to be on your list for the party in Morelia! I attended in Mazatlan, and it was quite a disappointment compared to what you have described. There were no flags, no music, nada. Only an hour of speeches in a small room with approximately 10 foreigners who arrived by invitation only, and who left immediately. Reporters seemed to outnumber foreigners. The INAMI employees enjoyed the bottled water and cookies in plastic cartons from Sam's Club after the foreigners left. The cookies were pretty good.
